National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is one of the 27 institutes and centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NIAID’s mission is to conduct and support research to better understand, treat, and prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. Its work includes funding scientific research, overseeing clinical trials, and developing innovative therapies and vaccines. Key areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, emerging infectious diseases like COVID-19, influenza, malaria, and tuberculosis, as well as autoimmune disorders and allergies. NIAID plays a vital role in improving global health and responding to public health emergencies.

Dr. Natalia Kruchinin, Program Coordinator, Team Lead

Dr. Kruchinin serves as the Small Business Program Coordinator at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In this role, she is the Program Director of the NIAID Small Business Center and a senior program leader and advisor to the Director of the Office of Research Training and Special Programs (ORTSP) and the Director of the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA). Dr. Kruchinin provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for a wide range of scientific and managerial activities within NIAID.
Prior to joining NIAID, Dr. Kruchinin served as a Program Director at the SBIR Development Center at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), NIH. In this capacity, she supported hundreds of small businesses in the cancer diagnostics and therapeutics sector, helping them secure government funding for innovative research and development projects with strong commercial potential.
Dr. Kruchinin has a robust background in research and development, with formal training and professional experience spanning academia, the biotechnology industry, and government. Before her roles at NIAID and NCI, she managed the Molecular Diagnostics Application Lab at QIAGEN Inc., worked as a senior scientist at Motorola Life Sciences, and served as a research scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
Dr. Kruchinin earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Saint Petersburg State University in Russia.
