At the end of January 2022, the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID) published a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) covering four research areas.

On February 7, 2022, we hosted a webinar on these funding opportunities (video, presentation slides for NIAID BAA webinar). Director of Business Development Amro Eid discussed the details of the BAA, who can apply for funding under it, what successful applications must have, and tips for distinguishing your application. He also took questions. The webinar was free of charge.

The four areas covered by the BAA are:

1. Development of Vaccine Candidates for Biodefense, Antimicrobial Resistant Infections and Emerging Infectious Diseases
Submission Deadline: APRIL 18, 2022, 3:00 PM EST. Award Date: MAY 2023.

2. Development of Therapeutic Candidates for Biodefense, Antimicrobial Resistant Infections and Emerging Infectious Diseases
Submission Deadline: APRIL 18, 2022, 3:00 PM EST. Award Date: MAY 2023.

3. Antiviral Program for Pandemics: Development of Antivirals for Specific RNA Viral Families of Pandemic Potential
Submission Deadline: MARCH 18, 2022, 3:00 PM EST. Award Date: NOVEMBER 2022.

4. Development of In Vitro Diagnostics for Biodefense, Antimicrobial Resistant Infections, and Emerging Infectious Diseases
Submission Deadline: APRIL 18, 2022, 3:00 PM EST. Award Date: MAY 2023.

You may submit proposals for multiple research areas.

In Research Areas 1, 2, and 4: For FY 23 the NIAID estimates up to $12.8 million for the award of 5-6 cost reimbursement type contracts across these three Research Areas.

In Research Area 003: For FY 23 the NIAID estimates up to $34 million for the award of 2 or more cost reimbursement type contracts.
