There are two aspects that contributed to the vaccine’s quick development – mRNA technology and NIH funding.

mRNA technology has been being developed for several decades. While this is the first vaccine using mRNA technology that has been approved by the FDA, scientists have been studying mRNA-based vaccines for years.
