How the FDA’s ‘master plan’ will affect NIH funding for digital medicine projects
The digital health sector has been growing steadily, particularly after the passing of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), and this new reality of digital medicine and telehealth requires regulations. The FDA has outlined a roadmap for what digital medicine should look like, called the Technology Modernization Action Plan (TMAP). The implications of TMAP are vast – especially given the robust budget available to fund R&D – but they aren’t carved in stone. Due to the nature of technological developments, requirements are updated quite often. Digital health is the future of medicine and US government is interested in getting involved.
