Government Money: The most effective weapon in the fight against Covid-19

The relatively rapid development of Covid-19 vaccines is a major win against the coronavirus pandemic. Previously, the quickest time it took to develop a vaccine was four years, and that was for the ebolavirus. So how was the Covid-19 vaccine developed so quickly? Government funding. The US government has spent large amounts of money either directly funding the development of vaccines, or their testing, storage, manufacturing, and transportation. But, it’s important to note that the Covid-19 vaccine researchers did not start from scratch. They based their current research on many years of previous research, which was also funded in part by the US government. And that, perhaps is the greatest lesson of all – if we want to be prepared for future pandemics, now is the time to invest in life science research.
